This hearty ground pork soup recipe makes a great meal and packs well in a Thermos for work or school. Ground pork is as easily used in recipes as ground beef or ground turkey. It has a hearty flavor but a little higher in fat than other ground meats.
It is ready in under 30 minutes and you can customize the soup by changing the vegetables you use! I have created another delicious recipe you will love, especially the kids! This Ground Pork Asian Lettuce Wraps recipe is a fun way to use ground pork.
Allergen Information:
This soup is gluten-free, nut-free, egg-free, oat-free, and soy-free. It is dairy-free if you omit the sour cream garnish. (You can also use a dairy-free sour cream for the garnish!)
My son loves soup recipes that have little spice, so this is a soup I make in bulk because you can easily control the spice level. If you prefer a real hearty chili…you will want to try this Ground Pork Chili recipe!
Tips For Success
1. Drain and rinse the black beans. This helps with the flavor.
2. Add a can of roasted green chiles for extra spice.
3. Cook the pasta for one minute less than the package directions. Every brand of gluten free pasta is made with different ingredients that all seem to need different cooking times.
4. Drain the pasta immediately into a colander. When pasta sits in a colander, it continues to cook, so it is important to either rinse it in cold water or give an ice bath with a bowl of ice water to halt the cooking process. It keeps your pasta from getting mushy
Ingredient Notes:
For the full list of ingredients and amounts, please go to the recipe card below.
- Ground Pork – As mentioned above, you can use any ground meat in this recipe.
- Diced Tomatoes – I prefer to use no-salt-added tomatoes. Adding seasonings is easier than subtracting them, and regular canned tomatoes can have too much salt.
- Vegetables – Onions, zucchini, or any veggies you have on hand.
- Chicken Broth – I use low-sodium, but regular or bone broth is also fine.
- Seasonings – Cumin, chili powder, and salt.
- Oil – Any cooking oil is fine.
- Cilantro – Fresh cilantro adds a nice flavor.
- Gluten Free Macaroni – There are not a lot of brands of gluten free pasta that can hold up to sitting in soup. I recommend either Jovial GF or Tinkyada brands.

Step 1: Cook the gluten-free macaroni according to package directions as I discuss above. Cook it for one minute less than the directions say. Do NOT cook the pasta in the soup, or you will end up with a mushy mess.
Step 2: Add the oil to a skillet and heat for 1 minute on medium heat. Add in the onion and vegetables to the frying pan and cook for 3 minutes.
Step 3: Add the ground pork and cook until the meat is browned. Grab a jar or something to store the grease. Carefully drain the hot grease out of the pan. Do not drain the grease into the sink.
Step 4: Add the meat and soup ingredients to a soup pot. Cover and bring to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes so the flavors all blend in together.
Step 5: Serve with a dollop of sour cream, shredded cheddar, and fresh cilantro.

I have never commented on a recipe before but this soup recipe was amazing ! My husband loved it too. It is a meal in a bowl. Perfect amount of spices!
You made my day, Bernadette. Thank you so much for coming back to let me know!
This sounds fantastic. Iโll be adding to my meal repertoire soon. The flavours sound amazing. Nice nourishing meal for hubby to take for lunch!
I hope you love it as much as my family did.
I surly enjoyed this soup. Being a fairly new cook I did struggle a bit with whether to drain the tomatoes or not – in the end I decided not to. Also, how much tomato sauce to put in. I decided the full 29oz jar I had was fine and ended up adding just about a cup more water. Thank you so much for a delicious recipe.
I am so glad you enjoyed this soup, Michelle. It is a much older recipe so I will go look and add the info about not draining the canned tomatoes.
The instructions fail to say when to add chicken stock, and beans. ๐ once I figured that out, and also that points 8 and 9 make more sense reversed, I made the soup and it’s very tasty. Thanks!
Hi Shirley, I am so glad you liked my recipe. I went in to clarify the directions a little more ๐
The print command does not work for me.
Hi Gail, I double checked the setting and then I reset it. Can you please try again and let me know if it works now? Thank you!!
We don’t use ground pork very often since I always have trouble finding a good way to use it so it’s not so gummy. But I bet serving it up in a soup is great since the broth must help to soften it while picking up all the flavors! It looks delicious!
I haven’t thought about it but there was no gumminess to the pork so maybe using it in soups helps ๐
I am gluten free as well (but also vegan). I recently got my mind blown when I found out all the ways you can use Pamela’s gluten free mixes, like calzones, buns and bread. I am not ready to make my own mixes from scratch, so am a happy camper. We definitely have more options than we used to!
I love Pamela’s mixes too. When we first went gluten free there was NOTHING out there so I am pretty happy now as well ๐
